Focusing on Nonprofit Leadership: A blog series with Sam Davidson.

October 1st, 2009  |  Published in Leadership

October is Nonprofit Career Month.  To help celebrate the amazing young leaders with careers in the sector and to final bring a conversation to fruition, Sam Davidson and I will be blogging about our ideas of nonprofit leadership, how we have become leaders, and tips for other young leaders to grow.

About six months ago, Sam Davidson and I started discussing the concept of young leaders in the nonprofit sector on Twitter.  Each Monday and Wednesday in October we will be writing about our leadership experiences in the sector.  We will each take alternate days to discuss our takes on what Seth Godin says are the four factors leadership is scarce:

  • It’s uncomfortable to stand up in front of strangers.
  • It’s uncomfortable to propose an idea that might fail.
  • It’s uncomfortable to challenge the status quo.
  • It’s uncomfortable to resist the urge to settle.

Sam and I will each talk about when we’ve been uncomfortable in these ways, as well as offer recommendations for future nonprofit leaders on how they, too, can become uncomfortable and then work through that experience to lead others within the nonprofit world.

During the month we will be discussing how you can get involved in the series. Keep an eye out and begin thinking of the ways you have built your leadership in the sector.
